TheyLied: does Vision Zero mean Zero Cars & Zero Vision?
Birmingham, UK proposes to BAN cars. What’s this all about?
Every major city in Canada currently has snow on the ground or is below zero. So, obviously we’re all out and about on our city’s rental e-scooters and e-bikes to combat Climate Change and shop within our 15 Minute Cities (that’s sarcasm, in case you’re new to this newsletter).
The war on cars is ramping up and our Orwellian future is coming if we don’t speak up and push back.
“Vision Zero is an approach to road safety that has been adopted in various forms around the world and can be summarized as; no loss of life or injury on our roads is acceptable.”
Which sounds great! But, the devil is in the details.
We’ll get to Canadian cities in a minute, but, first Birmingham, UK proposes to BAN cars. What’s this all about?:

Vision Zero (aka “Road to Zero” & “La Vision Zéro”) in Canada
Windsor, Ontario’s website states:
“Vision Zero is a philosophy that encourages changes in the way roads work to ensure all fatalities and life-altering injuries caused by auto collisions are eliminated. Its main goal is to make the road network safer, healthier, and equitable for all users, no matter their mode of choice, level of mobility, and other factors.
Vision Zero involves a major paradigm shift from the traditional approach to road engineering and design. The table below, based on the Vision Zero Network’s guidelines, compares the traditional approach to the Vision Zero approach.”
Traditional Approach:
Traffic deaths are inevitable;
Human behavior needs to be perfected;
We must prevent collisions;
Road safety is an individual responsibility;
Saving lives is expensive.
Vision Zero:
Traffic deaths are preventable;
Humans make mistakes;
We must prevent fatal and severe injuries;
Road safety requires a systems approach;
Saving lives is not expensive.
We have seen changes already with traffic calming barriers, chicanes, bulb-outs, speed humps & bumps, reduced speed limits and more ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) Cameras installed, to name a few. Make no mistake, this is the slippery slope where the goal is to eliminate private cars from the roadway and imprison us in 15 Minute Cities (or SMART Cities).
In about 4 years, newly manufactured vehicles within the USA will be required to have a kill switch, which can be engaged remotely by authorized government agencies. Fully electric vehicles (EV) can already be disabled remotely, since they are always connected to the “cloud” of the manufacturer.
